Monsoon Tourism Backwaters
The heavy monsoon rains starting in June and continuing during July and sometimes extending into August cause floods almost every year. Such floods often cause heavy damages to standing crops of rice in fields below sea level. If the rains are extra - heavy, the deluge may cause more problems like partial submergence of houses.
Floods may continue for several days in the backwaters regions, because of the delay in draining off excess water into the sea, through limited outlets. However, floods will not cause many problems for houseboats and tourists.
